NATO Starts
NATO stands for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It was started in 1949. It is a mutual defense league in the U.S. and Canada. Ten other countries also joined right when NATO formed.
This is a present day picture of the official NATO building. Every country that is a member of NATO, (which is all but very few) has a flag that represents them.
Above, is one of the first pictures taken, after NATO had formed. This is the official signing of the papers, stating the rules and regulations of the organization. If you join, you are expected to help another country out if they are attacked.
When the countries in Europe split up this is what it looked like. The green represents the NATO members. These are all allies with the United States. All of these countries have world peace as one of their top priorities. The orange color represents the countries involved with the Warsaw Pact.
