One page summary
There we a few key issues that caused the Cold War. One was that the United States refused to share information about the atomic bomb. This was a big deal because the USSR felt very unsafe without anything like the atomic bomb; knowing what happened to Japan. Truman also didn’t want to look soft to the USSR. Truman’s goal was peace but he also wanted power. He wanted to look like a put together country and better than his surrounding countries. The Soviets also needed to secure their borders to their countries.
We had history with the Soviets before the war started. When the USSR went communist the US broke off all relation with them. When the Great Depression came, we started to trade with them but we did only that. We were allies during WWII. We were not friends, but we both hater Germany. We also didn’t trust the Soviets due to the non-aggression pact. This was also a Communist vs. Capitalist war. By the end of the war, our sciences, diplomacy, and culture had all advanced. There had been new advancements with the hydrogen bomb and I.C.B.M.’s, which are missiles without pilots that go very long distances. We also had made friends throughout the war and the American dream became much more important!
